Medical devices company Abbott has announced further expansions of its Irish operations at the official opening of a €90m manufacturing facility in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.
The plans for the IDA-backed expansion were initially announced by Guidant, but Abbott acquired the business earlier this year. The facility will make drug-eluting stents, which are used to treat heart problems. Abbott already employs 850 at Clonmel and has confirmed plans to recruit another 500 people by the end of 2007.
Abbott has also announced plans for an extra 70,000 square foot administration facility to accommodate future growth at Clonmel. Abbott employs more than 3,300 people in Ireland.
