Number of new cars licensed in July up 5.4%

The number of new private cars licensed in July 2006 rose by 5.4% from the same time last year. Figures from the Central Statistics Office says that a total of 14,905 new cars were licensed last month, up from the figure of 14,142 the same time last year.

The CSO also says that first licensing of second hand private cars jumped by 31.9% on the same month last year.

The number of new goods vehicles licensed in July 2006 rose by 7.7% from the same time last year, from a figure of 3,270 to 3,522.

The popular brand of new car licensed last month was again Toyota, with a total of 2,221 sold. This was followed by Ford (1,929), Volkswagen (1,593), Nissan (1,258) and Opel (1,083).
