SIPTU members have backed an agreement negotiated with Great Southern Hotels on the sale of the group.
The union said the deal, which covers 950 workers, was approved by an 'overwhelming majority'. The Dublin Airport Authority is selling the eight hotels through a tender process. An announcement on the identity of the buyer or buyers is expected soon.
Under the deal, the new owner or owners would recognise SIPTU's right to negotiate on behalf of future workers and would set up a defined contribution pension scheme for all former employees.
The agreement also covers a voluntary severance package and conditions of employment. SIPTU said that while it was happy with the deal, it still believed the hotels should have remained in State ownership.
