HSBC Holdings in Dublin expansion

HSBC Holdings Plc, Europe's biggest bank, has set up a corporate banking business in Ireland for companies pursuing growth in international markets.

HSBC said the new Dublin-based team will be led by Alan Duffy, who joins from ING Bank, according to a report from Reuters.

'The continued vibrancy of the Irish economy and the general internationalisation of trade will ensure that Irish companies are well positioned to capitalise on growth opportunities globally,' Charles Gregory, chief executive of HSBC in Ireland, said in a statement.

London-based HSBC has been in Ireland since 1979 and provides financial services to institutional and corporate clients, insurance services and consumer finance.

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation was established in 1865 to finance the growing trade between China and Europe.
