Europe shows stronger visitor growth

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show that foreign visitors made just over 710,000 trips to Ireland in May, up 18% compared with the same month last year.

Trips from Britain were up 16%, while trips from the rest of Europe rose by 28%. The rises for North America and the rest of the world were smaller, at 8.6% and 5.4% respectively.

Irish residents made 603,700 trips abroad in the month, an increase of 6.6% compared with a year earlier.
