New figures today show that a total of 21,894 new housing units were completed in the first three months of this year. This is more than for the whole of 1993, when house completions stood at 21,391.
Figures from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government show that new house registrations for the first quarter of 2006 show an increase of 15% nationally, 13.6% in Dublin and 7.2% in the Greater Dublin Area.
The figures show that in the first three months of the year a total of 5,139 housing units were built in Dublin. This is followed by 1,544 in Cork. Leitrim has the lowest level of house building at 227 in the first quarter of the year.
