Economic confidence in the euro zone and in the whole of the European Union is at the highest point since the middle of 2001, the European Commission said today. The euro zone economic confidence index continued to firm in March, gaining 0.8 points to 103.5 points.
For all 25 countries in the European Union, the economic confidence index had risen by 0.7 points even higher to 104.8 points.
The index of economic confidence, which covers overall sentiment among business leaders and consumers, was at the highest level since the middle of 2001 both in the euro zone and in the whole of the European Union, the commission said.
Meanwhile, the euro zone business climate indicator advanced 0.19 points to 0.80, the Commission said. The index of the euro zone business climate, which measures the confidence of industrial leaders, was strong because order books held by business had improved.
The economic confidence index showed that confidence had advanced in all sectors, except regarding consumers, the commission said.
In the sectors of industry and services, the confidence indicator had gained one point and in the construction and commercial sectors two points.
