Campbell Soup is considering a sale of its Irish and British businesses, which also include the Erin soups, McDonnells sauces and Oxo stock cubes brands.
The world's largest soup maker operates the Erin plant in Thurles, Co Tipperary and also has an office in Dublin. Campbell bought Erin from Greencore in 2002.
In a statement, the parent company said its UK and Ireland portfolio was fragmented and had not grown as quickly as it expected.
The business has annual sales of about £280m. It is thought the auction could attract bids of about £700m, and Campbell has hired investment banking heavyweight Goldman Sachs as its adviser.
