Figures from the Department of Finance show that there was an Exchequer surplus of €1.3 billion in January.
Total tax receipts were just over €4.2 billion, in line with projections published by the Department of Finance on Wednesday. Spending was also in line with expectations at €2.85 billion.
Income tax receipts were €1.1 billion, while VAT brought in €2 billion. The Government is expecting tax revenues to rise by just over 6% this year, after a 10% increase last year.
