Exploration company Tullow Oil said it had a record year in 2005, helped by strong production combined with high oil and gas prices.
In a trading statement, the company said it produced an average of 58,450 barrels per day, up 44% on 2004. This has since risen to around 66,000 barrels.
Tullow says further growth is expected from development of a number of fields, and average production should reach 68,000 this year. The company drilled 11 wells last year, five of which were found to have oil or gas. Eight more are planned this year.
