Knock passenger numbers up 42%

Ireland West Airport Knock says its passenger numbers reached over 530,000 last year - an increase of 42% on the previous year's figures.

Numbers travelling on the airport's scheduled routes increased by 34% as a result of a number of new daily services, while the airport says its holiday charter business has almost trebled since 2002 to more than 55,000 passengers in 2005.

The airport says it targeting new routes to primary and regional UK and European destinations this year, while the development of a new hotel and leisure complex and the decentralisation of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs at sites near the airport will boost activity further.
