Ireland and India agree biotech deal

Representatives of the Irish and Indian biotech industries have signed a collaboration agreement in Bangalore.

The Irish BioIndustry Association and its Indian counterpart ABLE signed the deal at the headquarters of Indian's leading biotechnology company, Biocon. The Taoiseach and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment attended the ceremony, which took place as part of the Government trade mission to the country.

The Irish body said the agreement was expected to open up potential partnerships in research and commercialisation. Indian biotech firms posted combined sales of more than $1 billion last year, up 36% on the previous year.
