SIPTU firmly opposes EU Services Directive

SIPTU President Jack O'Connor has described the proposed EU Services Directive as a blank cheque for exploitation.

The directive would allow companies or individuals to provide services in any EU member state without being bound by local labour law or regulation.

Speaking at a seminar on the directive, Mr O'Connor said this would allow businesses to compete on the basis of the lowest labour standards in Europe with little chance of effective regulation.
