HBOS appoints new chief executive

The fourth biggest bank in Britain HBOS today appointed Andy Hornby as the new CEO.

The 38-year-old is to replace James Crosby in July when he will become the youngest to head a a British bank and also a FTSE100 listed company.

When Halifax merged with Bank of Scotland in 2001 to become HBOS, Mr Hornby was made chief executive of the retail division and was appointed chief operating officer last July.

HBOS is Britain's largest mortgage provider and employs 72,000.
