France on track for 1.5% growth

The French economy grew by 0.7% in the third quarter of 2005 compared with the previous quarter, final official data showed today. This puts France on track to achieve 1.5% growth for the full year.

The national statistics institute INSEE, publishing final figures for its November 18 estimates, confirmed its previous estimate of 0.7% expansion in Q3. It also revised slightly higher, by 0.1 points, the full-year growth forecast to 1.5%.

Consumer spending and business investment, the two traditional motors of French economic growth, recovered in the third quarter from declines in the previous quarter.
