William Hill lifts its profit forecast

Britain's biggest bookmaker, William Hill, has said its underlying annual profit for last year will be ahead of its previous forecast.

The company, which last year took over Stanley's shops in the Republic of Ireland, said it expected profits before interest, tax and exceptional items to be slightly ahead of its previously indicated range of £230-240m.

William Hill also said it was confident about 2006, with the World Cup in Germany likely to boost revenue.
