The Minister for Transport Martin Cullen has decided that an increase of 3.8% on Luas and CIE fares was appropriate after CIE and Luas put forward applications for increases up to 7.5%.
The Luas does not intend for the 3.8% increase to affect customers who use smart cards or ticket agents to purchase their tickets in an attempt to reduce the lengthy queues on Luas platforms.
The Minister said he was conscious of the requirement to achieve a balance of the impact on Luas and CIE customers and the need to sustain the financial health of the companies.
