Tullow ups North Sea field stake

Tullow Oil is to bring its stake in the Hewett Field area of the North Sea to 51.7% after acquiring an additional 13%. The Hewett Field includes the Bacton terminal.

The company also said its Faucon-1 exploration well off Mauritania had encountered hydrocarbon-bearing sandstones. More work will now be carried out before the company drills deeper. Tullow has a 20% stake in the well.

Chief executive Aidan Heavey said the Mauritania results were very encouraging for the Faucon prospect and the region.

But Tullow suspended drilling at a Romanian well, and will now transfer its interest to Europa Oil & Gas.
