The Irish Hotels Federation has called for a special fund of €10m a year for five years to market Shannon Airport to the North American market.
The body said the move should be part of a strategic Government plan to sustain and increase the current level of direct transatlantic traffic to the airport ahead of the phasing out of the Shannon stopover.
The IHF also called for infrastructural improvements for the region, including an upgrade of the Galway to Limerick road and a better rail network.
