Revenue's ROS system experiencing problems

Revenue's computer sytem, which was dealing with the pay and file tax deadline, crashed on a number of occasions today - for the third day running.

The first instance was on Tuesday when the system had to be rebooted. People were unable to file their tax returns online from 9am to 11am. Yesterday the system was down for a one hour period from 4.30pm.

Today the system had to be rebooted on three occasions. A Revenue spokesperson said the system was never down for more than half an hour today.

Revenue says there will be no extension to tonight's deadline of 12 midnight.

According to a spokesperson, the ROS system had to be taken down on three occasions today. The system was immediately rebooted and the restart time took between 15 and 30 minutes on each occasion.

The spokesperson said there would be no extension to the November 17 online file and return deadline. However, he said that Revenue takes 'a sensible approach to these issues'.

'If people have been delayed or inconvenienced by the short periods when the system was out over the last few days, they would be dealt with on a case by case basis,' he added.
