Dunne among Berkeley Court bidders

Jurys Doyle - Seven Berkeley Court bids?
Jurys Doyle - Seven Berkeley Court bids?

Market speculation suggests that at least seven tenders have been received by the Jurys Doyle hotel group to buy the Berkeley Court Hotel in Ballsbridge, south Dublin.

The hotel, which stands on just over two acres, was put up for sale at the end of August by Jurys Doyle.

A spokesman for property developer Sean Dunne has confirmed that he is among those who have bid for the property.

He recently paid out €260m for the adjacent 4.84 acres owned by Jurys Doyle, which is home to the Towers and Jurys Hotel.

Only the 13 bidders who made a valid bid for that site in Ballsbridge were invited to participate for the Berkeley Court.

The board of Jurys Doyle now has three weeks to consider the tenders but is not under any obligation to sell the property. Selling the Berkeley Court site would require the approval of shareholders, and in particular the JDH consortium which owns more than 50% of the company and is supported by the Doyle family.

A spokesperson for Jurys Doyle said the hotel group was 'very pleased with the strong response'.

Meanwhile, property investment group Quinlan Private has told the Irish Takeover Panel is does not intend to make an offer for Jurys Doyle. The group had said in August that it was looking at a number of opportunities, including the possibility of a move for Jurys.
