Transport Minister Martin Cullen has predicted that it will only be a matter of months before he introduces a high-powered executive body to drive forward public transport plans in Dublin.
Under the Government's new multi-billion euro transport plan, the capital is due to get a more DART, LUAS, suburban rail lines as well as two metros.
Minister Cullen said that a new super Transport Agency was critical to ensure the plans became a reality. He said a single authority with real powers was needed in Dublin to ensure what he called "joined-up thinking and delivery".
While the Minister's speech only referred to bringing proposals to Cabinet at an unspecified time, he told last night's Prime Time the high-powered executive would happen 'within months'.
The Opposition parties have claimed that the executive is another example of a long-promised project being re-packaged and re-sold.
They predicted it, like others promises in the Government plan, would be missed.
