Bates to leave National Lottery

National Lottery director Ray Bates is to leave his position early next year after almost 20 years with the company.

Dermot Griffin, currently chief operating officer, will take over as director next year.

Mr Bates said he felt the time was right for him to pursue fresh challenges, adding that he had a number of business and personal projects in mind.

Company chairman Donal Curtin and Finance Minister Brian Cowen paid tribute to Mr Bates. Mr Curtin said Mr Bates had led a team that had grown the National Lottery into a €600m business.
