The number of passengers using Dublin Airport in the first nine months of the year rose by 7% to over 14 million, new figures from the Dublin Airport Authority show.
Dublin Airport has seen the equivalent number of passengers travel through the airport in the first nine months of the year as did in the whole of 2001.
The DAA said that both the transatlantic market with 971,460 passengers and the European market with 6,426,586 passengers performed very strongly during this time as traffic volumes rose by 16% in both areas.
The Authority said the strong growth on the transatlantic routes was down to good performances on the New York, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia routes in particular, while European traffic benefited significantly from the 13 new routes launched during the year.
However, UK traffic reported a slight fall of 1% to a total of 6,203,146 passengers for the first nine months of the year.
Domestic air traffic was also lower - down 8% to 481,469 passengers - in the first nine months of the year.
