DIW sees German Q3 growth picking up

The German economy, the biggest in the 12-country eurozone, is expected to grow faster in the third quarter of this year than in the second quarter, when it stagnated, the economic think tank DIW said today.

German gross domestic product (GDP), which stagnated in the period from April to June, is expected to have risen by 0.5% in the following three months, DIW said in a statement.

The think tank said that growth is being driven primarily by a rise in output in the manufacturing sector, but also by stable developments in the
semi-finished goods sector.

German GDP notched up growth of 0.8% in the first three months of this year, but the economy slowed to a standstill in the second quarter.

Preliminary third-quarter GDP data are scheduled to be published by the federal statistics office, Destatis, on 15 November. DIW in full-year growth of 0.9% for Germany this year.
