Northern Ireland's main electricity supplier, Viridian Group, said that it expected trading for the half-year to end-September to be in line with expectations.

In a trading statement, it said its Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) business expects to report good progress.

In May, Viridian reported a 14% rise in underlying annual earnings and said its Irish markets were placed for further grown.

It said that its Energia division is growing its customer base here and during the first six months of the year it started to supply a number of large customers with gas as well as electricity.

The company said its results for the first half of the year will benefit from profits on the disposal of property as well as an exceptional gain of almost £110m sterling from the sale of Sx3 last April.
