Genzyme creates 120 new Waterford jobs

120 new jobs have been announced at a biotechnology plant in Waterford today.

The jobs are at the Genzyme complex in the city's IDA industrial estate, where a new €125m facility was opened today.

Genzyme is one of the world's leading biotechnology companies. It already employs 250 people in Waterford.

Tanaiste Mary Harney said that the new jobs show that Ireland has the ability to attract high quality projects from biotechnology companies.

'The biotechnology industry offers top quality employment opportunities, especially for graduates in the science areas, as is evident from the many jobs in this Genzyme facility that have been filled by skilled and qualified people,' she added.
