Trade between Hungary and Ireland has increased by 20% last year to over €360m, with sales by Irish companies in Hungary at €150m.

Enterprise Ireland is currently running a trade mission in Hungary. The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheal Martin is leading the Irish delegation and said that in its first full year of EU membership, Hungary's integration has been smoother than many anticipated.

The Minister said that Irish companies are keen to do business in Hungary and see trade opportunities right across the business spectrum and particularly in sectors where Irish companies are already active - the electronics industry, software, engineering, renewable energy and environmental services.

He said that a growing number of Irish companies have put down roots in Hungary through sales offices, production facilities and other investments.

'Irish companies are in a good position to work with their local partners to develop significant business from a Hungarian base throughout the Central European region,' the Minister said.

Companies taking part in the trade mission include Irish knitwear company Castle of Ireland, Dublin's Centre of English Studies, CR2, Daon, Cork's John J Fleming Construction, Fineos, Tralee's Global Currency Exchange, Icarus, Iona Technologies, Castlebar's McHale Engineering, Norkon Technologies, Openmind Networks, Openet Telecom, Mullingar's ORS Consulting Engineers, Navan's PG Brogan & Co, Waterford's PPI Adhesive Products, Quantum Healthcare Informatics, Bandon's SWS International Group, Carlow's Tanco Autowrap, Wicklow's Valista and Dublin based XIAM.
