Carphone Warehouse plans new stores

Mobile phone retail group Carphone Warehouse has announced plans to open a further nine stores in Ireland, creating 60 new jobs.

Stephen Mackarel, CEO of its Irish business, said the new stores would be located in Drogheda, Sligo, Letterkenny, Maynooth, Ballincollig, Ashbourne, Clonmel and two stores in Limerick.

'We are investing a total of €2m in new stores throughout Ireland and the planned upgrading and refurbishment of our existing stores will cost in the region of €300,000,' he said.

Mr Mackarel said the company was making the investment due to continued growth and the move was a sign of the company's confidence in the telecommunications market in Ireland.

The Carphone Warehouse opened its first store in Ireland on Dublin's Grafton Street in 1997 and now has 35 stores throughout Ireland employing 250 people.
