With just three weeks to go before a general election, consumer sentiment in Germany, the euro zone's biggest economy, is on the up, a new poll conducted each month by the market research group GfK showed today.
'Following several months of low morale among consumers, the consumer mood in Germany improved in August for the first time since April,' GfK said in a statement.
The outlook looks set to improve again next month. GfK's consumer climate forecast index rose to 3.4 points for September from 3.2 points for August.
'The overall development suggests that the election scheduled for September is having a positive effect on consumer mood,' GfK said, though it warned that this did not mean that the consumer climate would be affected positively in the long-term.
