Most workers think their bosses are excessively bureaucratic, apportion blame wrongly and are inconsistent in decision making, proving that the belief that managers hamper staff is deeply ingrained.
This is according to research carried out by Sirota Survey Intelligence. The firm questioned 3.5 million staff over 30 years at companies including giants such as Shell, Tesco, Microsoft and Dell.
Dr David Sirota, chairman of the research firm, believes that too often managers get in the way and hinder their staff's natural enthusiasm. He says that people go to work to work, but that they often find conditions that block high performance.
