The Revenue says it has received a high volume of cheques with high values all day on Friday as several thousand people voluntary settled tax liabilities arising out of the investment of undisclosed funds in life assurance linked investment products.
The deadline for making a voluntary disclosure was due to run out on Friday night and a major Revenue investigation into such funds will start immediately.
But, in an unprecedented move the, the office spearheading the Revenue investigation in Dublin will open on Saturday to continue to take payments from the public.
On Thursday, Revenue chief Frank Daly told the Public Accounts Committee that the probe into single premium insurance policies had yielded €106m so far,
