An Post delivery rates picking up

According to the latest An Post report from the communications regulator three quarters of single priority mail was delivered within one working day in the first quarter, which is an improvement on last year but still below targets.

ComReg's report on the quality of service of An Post published today shows that 76% of single piece priority mail was delivered within one working day,  and while this quarter is the second best performing period of the year the result still falls below ComReg's target of 94%.

Mail delivered within three working days came in at 98%, which again was an improvement on last year but still below the target of 99.5%.

ComReg said service levels continue to vary with mail posted outside Dublin for delivery in Dublin receiving a poorer quality of service than mail posted and delivered within Dublin.

Commenting on the results Mike Byrne of ComReg said that the national economy needs an efficient and reliable postal service and that ComReg will continue to actively pursue the issue of quality improvements with An Post and will publish reports of performance every quarter in addition to an annual report

ComReg is the sole statutorily required to set and publish quality of service standards in relation to the universal service. The survey which was conducted by TNS mrbi is based on the statistical methods set out by CEN the European standards institute.
