The Minister for Finance Brian Cowen has named some additional tax relief schemes which he has added to the list of those being reviewed by the Revenue.
He told the Dail they included reliefs given for interest on loans used for investments in partnerships and companies, reliefs for significant buildings and gardens, reliefs for donations and for patent income.
The review would also look at some pension tax reliefs, especially if they had been used by high earners to reduce their tax bills. The Minister said he had asked for a report on the application of the rules for non-residency for tax purposes.
Labour's Joan Burton had asked him to clarify whether a person would be classed as non-resident for a day, if they left the country only for an hour, at around midnight.
The Minister said a person was not counted as resident for the day if they were not here at midnight - as provided for in rules imposed during the Fianna Fail/Labour coalition government in 1994.
