Women need to look at cover - Pensions Board

The Pensions Board launched 'Secure Your Future Day' today to highlight the lack of pension cover among young people and in particular young women.

Only 46% of women in the national workforce and only one third of working women outside the public service have pensions.

Mary Hutch, of the Pensions Board said that women of every age need to look at their pension arrangements to ensure their security and independence in retirement.

She warned :' the sad reality is that unless attitudes change, retirement for hundreds of thousands of women in the future will mean managing on the State pension of €179.30 per week'.

Information is available on www.pensionsboard.ie where there is a sample calculator to help work out the individual's pension needs.

The Pensions Board is the statutory body set up to regulate occupational pension schemes and Personal Retirement Savings Accounts (PRSAs).
