Fingleton to stay at Competition Authority

Enterprise, Trade and Employment Minister Micheál Martin has re-appointed Dr John Fingleton as Chairperson of the Competition Authority.

'Since taking up the post in May, 2000, Mr Fingleton has presided over a period of significant change and development at the Authority.  He has successfully overseen this change which has come about primarily as a result of the enhanced enforcement powers granted to the Authority in the Competition act 2002,' the Minister said.

'These legislative changes, allied to substantially increased staffing and funding levels in recent years, are reflective of a modern and dynamic economy.  Better competition and more rigorous enforcement of competition law, benefits business and consumers alike', he added.
