Barclays hoping for S Africa return

British bank Barclays has said it is awaiting feedback from investors in South African bank Absa after discussing a bid for 60% of the South African bank.

The bid would be at 80.8 rand a share, a 6% premium on Friday's closing price.

A deal would mark a return to the South African market for Britain's third largest bank. It was forced to pull out in 1986 amid pressure over the country's apartheid regime.
