Strong US sales drive Nissan profit

Nissan Motor, Japan's second largest car maker has reported a fifth consecutive record annual profit on the back of strong sales in the key US market.

The company, which is controlled by France's Renault, said net profit rose 1.7% to $4.8 billion in the year to March, just above its own forecast, while operating profit was up 4.4%.

Revenue rose 15% as the company sold a record 3.4 million vehicles worldwide in the past year, propelled by an 18% rise in US sales. US sales topped the one million mark for the first time.
