Woodies €10m investment to create new jobs

DIY and garden centres group Woodies today announced a €10m investment programme, which will lead to the creation of up to 200 new jobs.

The announcement was made at the opening of the group's relocated store in Cork today.

'Through our current pipeline of new store openings and by improving existing DIY outlets through store relocations in Cork and Bray, we will create up to 200 jobs over the next 12 months,' commented Ray Colman, CEO.

This will also include new developments in Carrickmines, Co Dublin and Drogheda, Co Louth and a new store in Naas, Co Kildare. This will bring the total number of Woodies DIY stores to 22 by the end of the year.

Mr Colman said the DIY market is performing strongly. 'The growth among domestic players and new entrants is continuing to deliver choice and price competition, which is good news for Irish consumers,' he said.

'We expect to see continued growth in gardening requirements due to the increase in home owners and house completions over the past year,' he added.

Woodies is owned by the Grafton Group.
