Social & Family Affairs Minister Seamus Brennan has expressed 'deep concern' that more than half of working women do not have any private pension coverage.
He told an International Women's Day lunch in Dublin that most recent results showed that coverage for people aged 20 to 69 in employment was running at 56.5% for men, but just 46.8% for women.
Minister Brennan described the figure as 'totally inadequate', adding that it could be as low as one third when those on public service pensions were taken away.
Earlier the Pensions Board called on women to assess their pensions situation, saying they were particularly vulnerable.
