Dermot Byrne as been named as the new CEO of Eirgrid, the state company which it due to become the country's independent electricity transmission system operator.
An electrical engineer, Mr Byrne worked in senior positions in ESB National Grid in the 1990s. More recently he was head of ESB Networks, where he oversaw the increased investment in transmission and distribution infrastructure, including the introduction of contractors.
His current position is Group Commercial Manager with the ESB.
