SIPTU chief backs DAA terminal

Jack O'Connor - Letter to Taoiseach

SIPTU President Jack O'Connor has written to the Taoiseach supporting a second terminal run by the Dublin Airport Authority.

The union says that in the absence of a state run terminal, it is in negotiations with the McEvaddy brothers to develop a privately funded terminal on lands beside the airport at Huntstown.

In his letter, Mr O'Connor acknowledges that the aviation branch of the union has engaged in exploratory discussions with Ulick McEvaddy.

But Mr O'Connor says the 'most sensible' option would be for the union to become involved in a project with the Dublin Airport Authority.

In response today Siptu confirmed that the letter stated they strongly favour a second terminal which should be built and operated by the Dublin Airport Authority and said only in the absence of such a deal that the Union would support the McEvaddy proposition on the agreement that it would not lead to a fall in the quality of jobs at the new terminal.

The union rejected that the Union's National Executive Council position and the Civil Aviation Branch differed on this matter
