IMI strive to be ranked in top 50

The CEO of the Irish Management Institute (IMI), Dr Tom McCarthy, has said that by 2015 he wants to see the institute ranked as one of the top 50 management centres in the world and its Masters programme to be ranked in the top 25.

Speaking today to announce details of the IMI's National Management Conference, which takes place on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 of April, Dr McCarthy said the Institute intends to form new partnerships with academic and business interests and to develop a world-class management development faculty.

He said the IMI will develop along two lines : the award programme which will lead to a Masters Degree and the non-award practical programmes which will have a significant focus on Irish SMEs.

Dr McCarthy said this year's National Management Conference will be looking at over-regulation and whether the State still needs to own certain infrastructure.

Amongst the speakers are: Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Finance Minister Brian Cowen, Phil Nolan of Eircom,  Maurice Pratt of C&C and Joe Macri of Microsoft.

The conference will take place at the Druids Glen Marriott Hotel, Co Wicklow.
