Renewable energy company Airtricity is set to more than double its energy capacity in the near future with the opening of four new wind farms in counties Cavan, Donegal, Cork and Fermanagh. This will see Airtricity's total generation capacity rise to over 200MW.
Contributing to this will be Airtricity's first wind farm in the North - at Tappaghan in Co Fermanagh.
Currently Airtricity generates 89W through five wind farms located in Ireland and Scotland. The new wind farms will create an additional 112.5MW of electricity, which is enough to power over 70,000 homes.
Airtricity's CEO Eddie O'Connor said that after these four new wind farms are opened, the company will not be building any more plants in the Republic until regulatory uncertainties have been clarified.
