Property group Quinlan Private today said its new luxury hotel company is to be called the Maybourne Hotel Group, and that the group would be planning to expand globally.
The Maybourne Hotel Group will own and manage the Berkeley, Claridge's and the Connaught which, together with the Savoy, were bought last year by a group of investors led by Quinlan Private. The group will be based in Mayfair, London.
The four hotels were previously managed by the Savoy Group, which has been dissolved on the recent sale of the Savoy. It was announced today that Gerdaline McKenna, who was previously VP of the Savoy group, has been appointed head of the new group.
The Maybourne Hotel Group said today that it is planning to acquire and develop super-luxury hotels globally and that it will commence construction at the Connaught of 35 new suites and a health spa.
Derek Quinlan, Chairman of Quinlan said: 'There is a clear gap in the market for a group managing only landmark super-luxury hotel properties'.
Quinlan Private bought the Savoy Group which included the Berkeley, Claridges, the Connaught and the Savoy together with the Savoy Theatre and Simpson's-in-the-Strand in May 2004 for £750m. It sold the Savoy and Simpson's-in-the-Strand earlier this month to a company backed by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal.
