American Airlines cuts fares to match Delta

American Airlines unveiled new fare cuts today, matching Delta Air Lines' recently announced fare structure that scraps many requirements for discounted fares.

American Airlines, the largest US carrier, said the new programme 'broadly matched Delta's new fare structure, reducing the highest fares and lowering fares for last-minute travel in thousands of markets throughout the continental US.'

In most markets, the Saturday-night stay requirements have been eliminated, and the highest economy one-way fare for key routes was cut to $499, the same as Delta's fare.

The plan calls for fewer fare levels on each route, but do provide discounts for advance purchases.
