Travel figures from the Central Statistics Office continue to show a fall in the number of visitors to this country from Britain.

The number of trips made by overseas visitors to Ireland in October was just over 555,000, an increase of 2.4% on the same month last year. For the first ten months of the year, there was a 2.7% rise to 5.55 million.

But the number of trips from Britain was down 3% in October compared with the same month last year, while the figure for the year so far shows a fall of 1.5%.

Trips from other European countries rose by nearly 10% compared with October 2003, while the figure for North American visitors was up 9%.

Irish residents made 507,600 trips abroad in October, up 17.5% on the same month last year.
