Prices are higher in Dublin than in the rest of the country for two thirds of products surveyed by the Central Statistics Office.
The CSO survey found that the average price of meat, fish and vegetables is more expensive in Dublin than the rest of the country. Potatoes were on average 16% higher in Dublin, while bananas were 6.4% cheaper.
However, milk, cheese and bread were less expensive in Dublin than in the rest of the country.
The survey also found that the average price of alcohol in pubs in the capital was consistently higher - with the average price of a pint of lager 13.2% higher in Dublin than the rest of the country. The price of take home drink was generally comparable with the exception of a can of larger, a can of cider and fine quality wine which were all cheaper in Dublin.
The figures also reveal that cost of going to the cinema in Dublin is 16% higher than elsewhere, while the cost of a cut and blow dry in Dublin was also 11% dearer.
The survey found that average unleaded petrol prices in Dublin were 0.2% lower while average diesel prices were 0.2% higher than the rest of the country.
The CSO said that of the 73 items surveyed, average prices in Dublin were higher for 48 items and lower for 24, with one item showing no difference. For 23 of the 73 items, the average prices are within a 3% range of each other.
