Century aiming to crack US market

Timber frame house manufacturer Century Homes says it is aiming to expand in North America by acquiring a locally-based company.

Chief executive Gerry McCaughey, speaking today at a construction show in Toronto in Canada, said the company wanted to build on its growth in Europe by launching in North America..

McCaughey said more than 90% of all new home starts in North America were timber frame.

'We are actively looking at a number of companies and I am hopeful that we will have a presence in the North America within three years,' he added.

Century Homes recently took control of Timber Frame Solutions, a timber frame company in the north of England.
