170 new jobs are to be created in the midlands in four new investments supported by IDA Ireland.

Three of the projects are new facilities, while the other involves the expansion of an existing operation.

Privately-owned US pharmaceutical company Innocoll Inc is setting up two facilities. In Roscommon Town, it is investing €6m in an R&D and manufacturing centre for specific products, which will create up to 60 jobs over four years. In Athlone, it is establishing its European sales and marketing headquarters, which will create up to 16 jobs over two years.

Another US company, Conor Medsystems, is to invest over €1m in a new centre in Athlone. This will manufacture and distribute coronary stent products and is expected to create up to 40 jobs over three years.

Cooper Cameron Corporation, a US company which makes products for the global oil and gas exploration industries, is to expand its Longford facility. This could create 57 jobs over five years.

In a statement, Enterprise, Trade & Employment Minister Micheal Martin said the diverse nature of the investments was a further endorsement of Ireland's ability to attract high-value investments across a range of sectors.
